About Raufarhöfn:
Raufarhöfn is on the east side of Melrakkaslétta, a fishing village of around 250 people. Nowhere in Iceland are the spring-nights brighter or the winter-days darker.
At Raufarhöfn we have a good camping place with splendid facilities, such as showers and electrical connections for caravans. Excellent playground for children is to be found in the grounds of the schoolhouse and sports-centre next door to the campsite. In the sport-centre we have first class facilities for different types of sport, an indoor-swimming-pool and also tanning-benches and training equipment.
All basic services are in place at Raufarhöfn, such as a medical-centre, drugstore, grocery-store, bank, post-office, gas-station, car-mechanics, hotel, bar, art-gallery and more.
You can spend your time in many pleasant ways in Raufarhöfn, the variety of birdlife inside and around the village is almost unique in Iceland, and then you can try your luck at angling in the harbour or in the lakes in the neighbourhood. We recommend also many fine walking routes around the Höfði or the Melrakkaslétta. Arctic-travel will offer sightseeing tours by boat, boat trips across the Arctic-circle, and sea-angling tours.
